Adult Piano Journey: Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Tibetan Dance" Practice Progress

Conquering "Tibetan Dance": An Adult Beginner's Piano Practice Journey

Hey everyone,

I'm incredibly excited to share my latest YouTube video, where I'm tackling a truly captivating piece by the legendary Ryuichi Sakamoto: "Tibetan Dance." As an adult beginner on the piano, this particular composition has presented some wonderful, albeit challenging, opportunities for growth.

Watch my practice progress video here: https://youtu.be/iVc_vbi71Fg

What makes "Tibetan Dance" so unique, and also so difficult for me, are its rhythmical and exotic melody lines. It's not just about hitting the right notes; it's about feeling and executing those intricate rhythmic patterns that give the piece its distinct, mesmerizing character.

In this video, you'll get an honest look at my practice process:

  • Breaking down the challenging rhythm: Sometimes it feels like a puzzle, but slowing it down and focusing on the underlying pulse really helps.

  • Embracing the exotic melody: The melody itself is pure joy – fun to play, but demands precision to truly bring out its unique 'flavor.'

  • The reality of 'trial and error': You'll see the moments of struggle, the wrong notes, the pauses, and the slow, incremental improvements that are part and parcel of learning any new skill, especially a musical one.

My hope is that this video resonates with other adult learners out there. It's a reminder that progress isn't always linear, but the journey of discovery, especially with a piece as beautiful as 'Tibetan Dance,' is incredibly rewarding.

What's the most challenging piece you've ever worked on as an adult beginner? Or what rhythmic patterns give you trouble? I'd love to hear your experiences and tips in the comments below the video!

Thanks for joining me on this musical adventure!
