BEGINNER'S DENIM CARE👖 Hand Wash & Soft Machine for Light/Dark Levi's & Eddie Bauer(Prevent Fading)
If you’ve ever loved a pair of jeans only to see them fade into oblivion after one too many washes, you know the pain. Conventional wisdom often says denim care has to be complicated—or that you should just never wash your jeans.
But for us casual wearers and those of us hunting for great deals on second-hand denim, you need a simple, reliable way to clean your favorite pieces without ruining their color.
That's why I put together this Beginner's Denim Care guide. No professional skills required!
The Simple, Two-Step Method for Long-Lasting Denim
This method is designed to be accessible and gentle enough to prevent color loss in dark jeans while getting your light denim truly clean. We skip the harsh detergents and rough cycles to maximize longevity.
Here's the quick breakdown of the steps demonstrated in the video:
Casual Hand Wash (The Tub Method): Instead of aggressive scrubbing, we use a bath tub and shower. The key is using simple body soap to gently soak and cleanse the fabric. This is far easier on the fibers than traditional laundry detergent and protects the indigo dye.
The Soft Machine Finish: After the hand rinse, the jeans are run through a very light soft washing setting on a conventional machine. This helps pull out any final residue without subjecting the jeans to a harsh, twisting agitation.
Featuring Light vs. Dark Denim
In the video, I focus on demonstrating this technique on two different pairs to highlight the color-preserving benefits:
Light Blue Denim: Represented by a Levi's 511 and Levi's 506 pair. The 506 was a really cheap find—only $10 USD from a Japanese used store—and I wanted to make sure it was completely cleaned.
Deep Blue Denim: Represented by a pair of Eddie Bauer Jeans. These have a deep, rich color that needs extra protection against fading. The simple hand-and-soft-machine combo is the perfect way to maintain that dark indigo tone.
If you are a beginner looking for an easy, no-stress routine that actually prevents fading, this guide is for you!
